Cool ... just added it. I'll probably contact people who put new routes in the forum so we can add them to the topos and such as well. |
| john 82 posts | hey eric. Could you put some text editing features on the forum sections, Like bold, italic, underline.............plus spell check. my spelling is BAD. and maybe a way to post jpeg's. like a thumbnail in the text then clicking would give a bigger picture. thanks awsome site and its getting better everyday |

Hey. It should support *bold* and _italics_ already. I just need to put a little help page to show people how to do it. The parser that I am using is called Textile. You can view the help page at "http://www.textism.com/tools/textile/":http://www.textism.com/tools/textile/. I may add a nice toolbar in the future as that will probably make it a bit easier. I'll have a look into uploading jpg's for use in the forum but that may take a while. In the meantime, if the image is already uploaded to the server then you can use the Textile image tag to show an image. !http://islandclimbing.com/photo/image/88/thumb/wells.jpg! As for spell check, I'd recommend downloading and using the "Firefox":http://www.getfirefox.com web browser. It has a built in spell check for all textareas. That way, you'll have spellcheck on every site you go to :) |
| john 82 posts | I've been using firefox for years. how does spell check work? |

It's a new feature that just came out with Firefox 2.0 a few weeks ago. You might need to upgrade to get the nice spell check feature. When you spell a word wrong, a small red dotted line appears under it. All you have to do it right click on it and it will give you some suggestions. It's quite similar to the spell check feature in Word. |
| john 82 posts | I'll get the update. thanks. i have yet another suggestion. On the Areas section you shold have a map of the island showing all the places to climb. I've never realy climbed in Victoria and I don't even have a general idea where crags are.nothing fancy just a map with general roads and main cities/towns. I could help if you want. You used to have that flash map of the island. But it would be better if it always had the "dots" labelled. not so you mouse over them to see the name. jw |

Sounds good John. Maybe I'll put up the old map for now minus the rollovers and we can work on a better one for a later date. |

Seem like the weather is down at the moment. It's been stuck at the same thing for a while. I'm going to have to find a new weather feed. |

Well .. it took a while but the weather feed is back up and working again. More fixes and features on the way! I received a GPS for Christmas so I'm looking into adding downloadable GPS data for the areas. |
| d_cent 1 post | This site is great so far. For locations it would great if we could get GPS coordinates for trail heads etc. It would help trip planning and give people a better idea of where trails are when out there so if access is sensitive they'll know not to stray too far. |
| Ed Seedhouse 10 posts | For the Wapiti Valley near Zeballos, my rather out of date site has GPS co-ordinates published at http://members.shaw.ca/eseedhouse/wapiti/way.html Ed |
| john 82 posts | Eric make a Eldred Valley section |
| jro 5 posts | Perhaps the site should have a SaltSpring section too.....its close to "our" island. |

Hey ... Eldrid and Saltspring are now on the site. I have a bunch of info on Eldrid from John already. I've climbed on Saltspring once, but don't have much info. Anyone want to fill in the blanks? Thanks. |
| john 82 posts | CAD is the man to talk to about the Eldred Valley |
| john 82 posts | Eric we should have a "Limestone" section atleast |
| Outerlimits 13 posts | Hey John I was wondering if you meant that a limestone section instead of Horne lake just because of any possible issues or did you just mean a limestone area in general. |
| CAD 2 posts | Hey Greg, I was thinking of coming over for the adopt-a-crag. Ours went well in the Eldred with 38 in attendance |
| john 82 posts | ya Greg, I just didn't want to say the "H" word. I asked Eric about this last year, but of course was hesitant. He climbs there too. I put a new route at Boss wall on Wednesday. there were 2 strong girls from Vancouver in the Amphitheater. The area gets few climbers. Its because of the questionable access. The landowners have a sign up at the entrance. It says no everything but doesn't mention climbing. I figure if they took the time to get a sign made they would include no climbing if it was on their list. That said. We Must tread very lightly in the area. its their backyard. john |
| Outerlimits 13 posts | Hey John Thanks for the reply! Yeah I figured as much and I agree with you it s kinda what I ve been trying to get across to people for a long time! After all it is their property now! We had our one big effort a few years back with all the directors on the Horne lake board and I had put together a professional report we were all well dressed etc. and we were supposed to have a half hour, but they gave us 10 minutes in the end and you could pretty much tell that they were not interested as a matter of fact I think even Al would agree with me they were fairly impolite and we as agroup were a thorn in there side. We gave each member a copy of our report and it included a copy of the landowners Act which was largely changed due to the CASBC but nothing changed as it has never been challenged in a BC Court as of yet! They did say to us that if it ever does they might listen again. Its funny though as I have a lot of friends that have cottages their and they say I m always welcome to climb there. So that is why I never bothered to do anything more after that. Maybe its best this way as we have no crowds and its a high quality climbing area. I have not been there for awhile but I am looking forward to going there soon! I have a route and another area that I want to work on. Thanks for the post! I look forward to getting on your route! As you say! Tread lightly. PS If any meeting comes up again in the future I will let you know and would be happy to have you along! Greg |
| Outerlimits 13 posts | Hey Collin Cool! That would be great! I would love to have you over here! If you come for the 2 days or more you can stay at our house Donna and I would love to have you here! Talk to You soon Greg |
| john 82 posts | My brother does all the silviculture stuff for their logged areas. so he works with them a bit. He even quietly asked about climbing. They said they were not too concerned. They didn't know my brother climbs. I think how thing are now is great. Route setting is so easy at horne. almost no cleaning, so you can set a route in like half a day. Up here at Comox lake or I assume at Nanaimo you spend a few days scrubbing moss first. uh too much work up here. Luckily moss and limestone don't mix very well. If the land owners want to talk about climbing, I would be interested and perhaps my brother could be a help with his forestry/silviculture background. |
| Outerlimits 13 posts | Well thats good to know it helps us to kind of know if any thing pops up. As for routesetting yeah you are absolutely right its way easy up there. Unlike as you say Comox and Nanaimo and most areas on the island! Tons of work. We have 5-7 new routes going in at the river (Sunny Side) this Month if the weather holds. They need to be finished before the Adopt a Crag. As we will be working on the staging area and trails right below them so it should be fun! Anyway as you say we will let it lie the way things are now. If it does come up in the future I will definately let you know! In the meantime if there is anything I can help you with as far as the Access society goes or even otherwise please let me know. If I hear any other news I'll post it and let you know. Thanks Greg |
